We arrived home nearly a week ago already. Where does the time go? Our most recent trip was right here in Australia, my favourite place to travel. This time we were being tour guides to friends who came here for the first time. Aside from seeing a bit of the country, they wanted to see the inside of as many wineries as possible. Oh damn. Nasty job but someone had to do it. (I am preparing a separate post on the food and wine portion of the trip, if you can stand it!)
Relating to you a blow by blow description seemed boring to me to write and probably for you to read, so having done my usual copious number of photos, I thought I’d just make this a mostly photographic representation of the trip which was 2500 kilometres long, starting from Adelaide. We flew from Alice to Adelaide, another 1500 k (1000 miles). We drove a big loop from Adelaide southeast to Padthaway and Coonawarra wine growing regions, through the Grampian Mountains, along the Great Ocean Road from Warrnambool to Melbourne, where our visitors departed, then Don and I drove back to Warrnambool where we drove the remaining part of the Great Ocean Road northwest until we were near Adelaide. I was once again reminded, we have some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, here in our own back yard… Toto, we are in Oz.
Can you stand a few more photos??? I told you I took lots!
Your pictures tell the journey wonderfully and showcased these gorgeous locations, some of which are familiar to me, and some new so I really enjoyed them.
I love the south west of Victoria. Husband #2 was from Colac so I spent quite a bit of time around there, particularly like Warnambool surrounds – Port Fairy etc, and have a great affection for Melbourne.
My best friend, Mrs S. and I have planned a trip to SA to the coast, and to the wine regions for our combined 50 the birthday’s, only a couple of years away. We had the whole world to chose from, and decided there would suit us best. Although Mrs S. did find us ‘a tour of New York for older women’ that I had no hesitation in vetoing.
Looking forward to more of your trip 🙂

Thank you Ella. You made me laugh vetoing the tour of NY for ‘older women’. Sounds ghastly. X

Looking forward to the food and wine component of your trip, and Mrs S. will be delighted that I’m taking an interest… as it seems to me, too far away – 2 birthdays yet – to bother with too much at the moment 🙂

Stunning photographs Toto .I’m guessing certain health related problems led to the weeks delay in producing this post, related of course to certain visits you made of which we’re only vaguely aware until your next post ‘hic’.
I think we could see you weren’t in Kansas any more.

Of your many travels, I have enjoyed these photos more than from any other. And I agree with the post of vetoing any NY tour for “older women”.
